Visit to Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester 18/3/2013

On Monday 18th March , I visited the Whitworth Art Gallery to view printed textile pieces from the 50's and 60's. The textile artist work I seen that day was from Lucienne Day , David Whitehead and Heals Fabrics. This visit inspired me with ideas of how to layout my designs and how I could make my prints fit in with that era of work.

Block compositions

During the tutorial last week , I realised that I needed more block compositions that I could then scan in and create a full length wallpaper for my Paolozzi Inspired Collection. Each sheet has parts of two or three objects painted in a bright colour palette to attract the eye. In theses pieces I have painted from clocks , phones, televisions , radios , lamps , sewing machines and type writers.

Market Research

Currently i have been researching designers and brands to see where about's the products that i am going to create for the exhibition fit in with the textile/surface design industry. I have found some brands like Marimekko's prints they have created are very similar  in the colour palette and boldness of shapes they create. Another designer that i have been currently researching is Rachel Taylor , who's prints i have been inspired by as most of her designs are out lines of objects and shapes. Her colour palette for her prints are also restricted to a minimal amount of colours.
