Upholstering the dining chairs.

This week as well as printing my final fabrics and wallpapers , i have been taking the fabric of my chairs ready to place my fabric on them for the exhibition.
Overall on Tuesday morning , i printed eight designs on either Oyster Linen and Tudor White Linen. The fabric croquis were printed on Oyster Linen and the designs for the chair were printed on Tudor White Linen.
Below are the images of the Fabric Croquis,

The images below are the printed digital designs for the dining chairs,
On the left side of the image is the bottom of one chair and on the opposite side is the back rest for the second chair.

Once they was printed they had to be steamed and hand washed. To prevent the digital prints from fraying when being washed i had to machine stitch around the digital designs. After washing the fabrics the next day i focused on taking the fabric off the chairs, below are the images of how i took the fabric of the chairs.

22nd April - 28th April

As the show is getting closer now , this week has involved measuring the material i need for my chairs , measuring my lamp and finally working what materials i'm using ad how much of each material i need to digitally print on. The final designs have been tweaked and corrected , and are waiting to be confirmed to be printed.
So far for the show i am producing 3 wallpapers for each collection , 5 pieces of 60x60cm fabric , 2 upholstered chairs and a lamp that hangs from the ceiling. All the fabric pieces are being printed on linen , hopefully Tudor White Linen and Oyster Linen .

Easter Break

Over easter, i have been creating compositions that could be use for wallpapers and fabrics for upholstering. i have place images of furniture, utensils and electronical items from the 1950's and the 1960's era to create these designs fo the collection called Vintage Pop Art.
The other collection is Paolozzi Inspired and that is using some of my designs sheets to create wallpaper and small alternative designs for wallpaper.
During the easter holidays whilst researching simular designs and layouts to what i am designing i have found that the design company Mini Moderns have created a chair wallpaper , cushions and Kitchen Utensils that has some simular motifs and layout as mine. By finding this it has boosted me to believe tha if Mini Modern can create this collection and it be successful so can mine.

Visit to Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester 18/3/2013

On Monday 18th March , I visited the Whitworth Art Gallery to view printed textile pieces from the 50's and 60's. The textile artist work I seen that day was from Lucienne Day , David Whitehead and Heals Fabrics. This visit inspired me with ideas of how to layout my designs and how I could make my prints fit in with that era of work.
